Rubiga is a good mother with a loving and peaceful nature. She is not aggressive like Mapendo, so it is easy for us to approach her to monitor how she is doing. She is also very healthy and has never been sick or required an intervention by the vets.

Ndakasi, one of Rubiga’s children, is one of the orphans now living with Ranger carers in Goma. When Nsekuye, Janja’s mother, was killed in June 2007, Ndakasi was found clinging to Nsekuye and had to be taken into care.

Rubiga was actually the name of an Mbuti Pygmy Ranger who died.
